Bet365 chief product officer to depart at the end of April

Alex Nichols says desire to return to UK on a permanent basis behind decision to call time on 10-year spell with online operator in Malta

Bet365 chief product officer (CPO) Alex Nichols has confirmed he will leave the online giant at the end of April.

Nichols, who is a 10-year stalwart at the Stoke-on-Trent-based operator, stepped up to become CPO in January 2021.

In this role, Nichols has been responsible for bet365’s gaming product strategy and commercial performance while based in the company’s Malta office.

Nichols originally joined bet365 in June 2013 as a poker operations manager before being named head of poker in February 2014.

He was subsequently made head of gaming product in September 2017 before stepping up to the C-level role in January 2021.

Prior to joining bet365, Nichols spent time with bwin, Betfred and Ladbrokes after starting his career in the industry back in 2003.

Taking to LinkedIn, Nichols confirmed the decision to depart bet365 was due partly to his and his family’s desire to move back to the UK.

Nichols said: “As some people are already aware, sadly, I’ll be leaving bet365 at the end of April 2024.

“This was a tough decision which is driven by the fact that we (myself and Sarah, my wife) want to live back at home in the UK having spent the vast majority of the past 17 years living away from home – ‘just a year’ in Gibraltar back in 2007 kept getting extended.

“A consequence of this is that I have to leave bet365, a company that is and always will be very dear to me.”

Nichols took the opportunity to reflect on his time with bet365 as he confirmed he would be taking a sabbatical during the summer before exploring his next career steps.

He said: “I’ve had the privilege of working in this industry since 2003 and for bet365 since 2013 and my time at bet365 has been transformational for me.

“I’ve been given big career opportunities at a relatively young age and I’ll be forever thankful to the company and to those people that believed in me.

“It is the standard line/cliché to say that I leave knowing that the gaming business is in exceptional hands but anyone who knows the team knows that this is genuinely the case.

“In the meantime, I’ll be cracking on with my existing role and helping the management team with the transition. So, to my bet365 and supplier friends it isn’t goodbye just yet.”
