Sports streaming giant’s boss explains rationale behind DAZN BET remaining the same as he insists complementary nature of product is its strength
DAZN CEO Shay Segev has once again suggested DAZN BET will remain as a complementary product to the sports streaming giant’s offering, rather than a standalone tier-one operator.
Speaking at SportsPro Madrid this week, the CEO was asked about his plans for DAZN BET, with the brand now live in the UK, Spain and more recently, Germany.
Segev stressed that a growth at all costs mentality was not being implemented for the brand, while noting the importance of fan experience in DAZN’s overarching aims.
He said: “The objective of DAZN BET is not necessarily to try to be the biggest betting company in the world the fastest we can, but to try to be the good complementary business for DAZN.
“We have a great business in DAZN which is [based on] fans’ experience. As I said I want to make sure that the betting vertical will become a complementary experience rather just another betting website,” he added.
Additionally, Segev moved to distance DAZN BET from other sports betting firms, as he suggested that the product was multi-faceted, rather than solely based on gambling.
He continued: “We don’t want to be bet365, we don’t want to be Ladbrokes, we don’t want to be Sportium. We don’t want to be like all of the other betting sites that when you go there, you bet.
“For us, when you go to DAZN, you go because you enjoy sports, and betting can just be another complementary experience,” he added.
The CEO made similar comments in September 2022, at the SBC Barcelona Summit, where he downplayed expectations that DAZN BET would become one of the leading brands in the market.
At the time, Segev said: “We don’t need to make £50m EBITDA from betting quickly, but we want to build a long-term sustainable business which creates value.
“Then we want to scale It globally. We don’t want to start fast and make mistakes; we want to start by building responsibly and then maximise it.”
