Matthew Saxon arrives at firm following November’s appointment of Andrew Cochrane as split of two divisions continues to gather pace

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has appointed Matthew Saxon as its new chief technology officer for its Platform and Sportsbook division as the firm looks to invest further in its product.

Saxon arrives from Sportradar where he served as senior vice-president of technology strategy and architecture, his first role in the igaming industry having joined in August 2019.

He will work under Platform and Sportsbook CEO Richard Carter and will be tasked with growing the supplier’s “innovative solutions and features” using his background in tech.

Prior to joining the sector, Saxon spent over two decades in the financial industry and spent time with Barclays and HSBC as a technical architect.

He also spent just over a year with PwC from November 2013 as a senior consultant before joining Worldpay in February 2015 as lead enterprise architect and then head of enterprise architecture.

On the hire, Carter said: “Matt’s appointment is a significant step towards helping us reach the high bar we have set for the business.

“We are continuing a process of bringing together the strongest leadership in sports betting and igaming and I am confident that his arrival will help further fuel our strategic plans, establishing us as a leader in technological advancement and commerciality across the igaming industry.”

Saxon added: “I am excited to be joining GiG and leading their technology team at the start of what promises to be an extremely impressive growth phase.

“The foundations that are in place are an amazing springboard to help us accelerate our partners’ businesses and I’m looking forward to helping GiG bring these great capabilities to them, both new and existing.”

Saxon’s arrival follows Jonas Warrer appointment as acting group CEO in September, while at the start of November former DraftKings exec Andrew Cochrane was named as as chief business officer for Platform and Sportsbook.
