Virtual Rail: Burns, Gathy & Zilberknop SCOOP more; XL Inferno ends

The number of double Spring Championship of Online Poker winners reaches 13 after successes from Kahle Burns, Michael Gathy and Matheus Zilberknop, Takanza goes deep in defence of his Main Event title, and XL Inferno ends.
Apart from the lucky buggers, today will feel as empty as a man standing at the prison gates waiting for them to open, when all he wanted was to stay inside with his mates, for life.
The PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) is nearly over. It’s been a Beethoven busting, Ganymede giant, Playboy porn star of a poker series, and only a few lucky blighters have some play left in them as the Main Events draw to a close.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
If there’s been a theme for the 2019 SCOOP it’s that to win a thing once is magical, but to do it twice is bog standard. All told, Howard Swains and the lads on the PokerStars blog have counted 13- double SCOOP winners.
Here are 11, 12 and 13.
Kahle ‘ROFLShove’ Burns overcame a final table dripping with quality, beating the likes of Ole Schemion (2nd) and Steve O’Dwyer (4th) to take down the 469-entrant SCOOP 52 (H) $2,100 No-Limit Hold’em event for $178,498. The Mexican resident also won SCOOP 49 (H) PKO for $312,071.45.
Michael ‘merla888’ Gathy is a monster both live and online, and the Belgian added the 119-entrant SCOOP 56 (H) $2,100 8-Game title to his resume after agreeing upon a heads-up deal with WTFOMFGOAO that earned him $56,035.24. Mike Leah finished sixth in that one. Gathy also won SCOOP 14 (H) $2,100 No-Limit Hold’em for $56,035.24.
The Brazilians have flourished during this series, and it continued with Matheus “zilbee” Zilberknop winning his second SCOOP title after conquering a field of 1,256-entrants to win SCOOP 58 (M) $109 buy-in 5-Card Omaha for $19,626 after winning SCOOP 20 (M) 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo earlier in the series.
Here is a list of the 2019 SCOOP double champs courtesy of the PokerStars blog.

Last year’s 2018 SCOOP Main Event winner, Tankanza finished third, a few days after winning SCOOP 40 (M) $215 No-Limit Hold’em Mini-Super Tuesday Edition.
Takanza could become SCOOP’s 14th double winner in exceptional circumstances as the defending champion of the $10,300 SCOOP (H) Main Event remains in the hunt with only 31-players remaining. 662-entrants created a prize pool of $6.62m, busting the $5m guarantee open at the seams, and the winner walks away with $1.27m.
Al three SCOOP Main Events smashed their guarantees like tomahawks smash skulls. The $109 buy-in event attracted 33,987-entrants to create a $3.4m prize pool, and the $1,050 buy-in event pulled in 5,474-entrants to create a $5.475m prize pool. The winner of the $109 can expect $334k, and $778k to the winner of the $1,050.
Of the 31 left in the Main Event, Roman “Romeopro” Romanovsky, Nick “caecilius” Petrangelo, and Adrian “Amadi_017” Mateos join the defending champion, Tankanza,
With one day remaining SCOOP 2019 has breezed through 195 tournaments, attracted 955,673 entrants, and amassed $101,275,835 in prize money.
XL Inferno ends with a firestorm
The flame has blown out on 888Poker’s XL Inferno. Of the 34-events, only one of them failed to match the guarantee, and all three Main Events stood up to the task.
The pièce de résistance was the $250 buy-in, $500,000 GTD Main Event. 1,634-entrants (inc. 502 rebuys) created a $501,960 prize pool, and after a three-handed deal, ‘D3n1sk4PP’ banked the $70,252.18 top prize.
