Entain has been named as the only gambling firm in LinkedIn’s 2024 list of leading companies in the UK.

The Ladbrokes Coral parent company ranked 18th in LinkedIn’s top 25 companies to work for in the UK, while coming third in the rundown of the nation’s top 10 tech companies.

This year marks the eighth edition of LinkedIn’s list of the best 25 companies to work for, while 2024 marks the inaugural version of the tech rankings.

Both lists use unique data that takes into account several aspects of career progression, according to the business networking site.

The methodology used to compile the rankings is based on eight pillars, including employees’ ability to advance, skills growth, company stability, external opportunity and company affinity.

The rankings also consider gender diversity, educational background and employee presence in the country.

To be eligible for either list, companies must have 5,000 employees or more across the world, with at least 500 based in the UK as of 31 December 2023.

The UK top 25 list saw Mastercard come out on top, with consultancy firm Bain & Company in second and pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca in third.

On the UK tech list, Entain was third behind IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services in second and fellow IT business Kyndryl in first.

Entain wrote on LinkedIn: “They always say that two is better than one, so we were over the moon when we found out that we made two top companies lists, coming top three in the best tech companies.

“Using independent LinkedIn data, our commitment to recognising and retaining talent, creating an inclusive work environment and encouraging personal and professional growth took us to the rankings this year, and it’s something we’re super proud about.”

No gambling companies featured in last year’s edition of the top 25, and the 2024 version highlighted a stellar 12 months for the FTSE 100 giant.

The news follows a turbulent month for Entain’s share price, which ended with a 4.8% increase by the end of April. Peaking at 854p on 22 April, a sharp decline followed to 784p four days later, before rising to 818p by 29 April.

At the close of play on 30 April, Entain shares had fallen by just over 30p to 785p.
