Flutter Entertainment’s UK and Ireland division has launched a search for a new startup partner to deliver products aimed at female gamblers.

The new competition, which is accepting entries from companies at lifecycle stages ranging from prototypes to funded, will be incorporated as part of Flutter’s Alpha Hub programme.

Flutter said the project had been launched due to female gamblers representing an “exciting opportunity”.

The operator stressed submitted products must be “tailored to [women’s] unique playstyle”.

The firm added: “With women tending to discover games through social circles, they [the startups] should identify novel ways to attract female customers by focusing on social and community gaming.

“The solution presented should be a digital entertainment destination that focuses on helping customers to unwind, have fun and relax.”

Flutter also said pitches should include low-cost customer acquisition tools with products that can gain popularity via word-of-mouth and peer-to-peer recommendation.

Examples of products the scheme is looking to support include simplified arcade games and slots, social gaming solutions and casual or free-to-play games.

Additionally, there is also a “wildcard option” for startups that pitch ideas that don’t necessarily fit the brief exactly but can be further supported by Flutter.

The successful startup will be afforded a commercial partnership with Flutter to help scale operations across the UK and Ireland.

The partnership will also include a demo day where the startup will be able to showcase its product to investors, as well as engagement with senior Flutter leadership and further support as part of the Alpha Hub.

Applications for the scheme are now open and will close on 15 March.

Steve Birch, Sky Betting and Gaming chief commercial officer, said: “We see this as a really exciting gap in the market, and we’re looking forward to finding and partnering with innovative startups through the Alpha Hub programme to seize this opportunity.”

In September, Flutter launched a similar call to action for startups focused on responsible gambling and community initiatives.
