Continent 8 Technologies has appointed former Google head Dave Phillips as its new vice-president of network.

The internet security provider added Phillips to oversee the firm’s global network which stands across four continents and 100 locations, including a growing presence in the US.

He will also work alongside global teams across Europe, Singapore, India and Canada.

Phillips is new to the igaming industry, having spent the best part of the last 15 years with Google, initially joining in July 2009 as manager of network operations EMEA and then adding Americas to his remit in February the following year.

Most of his time with the company was spent as senior manager of network engineering, a role he held from September 2012 before departing in December 2023.

Prior to that, Phillips spent six years with technology company Viatel and just under five years with telecommunications firm Ericsson.

Edward O’Connor, Continent 8 chief technology officer, welcomed Phillips to the firm and pointed to his work at Google as a key reason for his hiring.

O’Connor said: “Dave is a highly experienced network technologist with an incredible amount of internet industry experience having been at Google through their hypergrowth phase over the past 15 years.

“Our network is one of the largest and best connected in the business. For over 25 years our industry’s biggest brands have relied on the Continent 8 network and hiring Dave to lead our global team will help to ensure that we continue to innovate on behalf of customers for the next 25 years.

“Dave is joining a fantastic team – with his experience and the immense creativity of our group, I’m certain that we’re going to invent great ways to help our customers in 2024 and beyond.”

On his appointment, Phillips said he was keen to get to work in a new sector as well as strengthening Continent 8’s standing in the industry.

He added: “Continent 8’s connected network is quite simply the backbone of the igaming industry and I’m thrilled to be joining the company.

“I’m excited by the extraordinary growth facing Continent 8, further developing our innovative product set and strengthening our position as the infrastructure partner of choice for many of the biggest operators and suppliers in the global gaming industry.”

Phillips arrival follows the appointments of Carl Bonner as the firm’s regional sales director in November and Jeremie Kanter to lead its new regulatory division in October.
