Spotlight Sports Group Americas SVP departs

Former Paddy Power head Gethin Evans calls time on five-year spell with Racing Post parent company

Spotlight Sports Group SVP of Americas Gethin Evans has departed the affiliate after more than five years with the company.

Evans leaves the firm after little over a year as the group’s SVP of Americas, where he oversaw the strategy for the Pickswise and Fantasy Alarm brands as well as managing various media partnerships.

He originally joined Spotlight Sports Group in September 2018 as digital marketing director before stepping up to become group chief marketing officer in October 2020.

Evans’ previous industry experience came from the B2C side of the sector, having worked with Virgin Bet and Paddy Power across various marketing roles.

Taking to LinkedIn to announce his departure, Evans confirmed he was preparing for advisory work in Q1 2024.

He said: “After five years and three different roles with Spotlight Sports Group, I am leaving the executive management team to head off for new challenges.

“For 2024, I am looking for general management or P&L ownership roles to take businesses and their people through the next stages of their growth plan.

“[A] huge thanks to all the teams I worked with; we can be proud of the hard work we did together. Very best of luck to everyone at Spotlight Sports Group for 2024 and beyond.”

Evans’ exit marks the second major departure from Spotlight Sports Group this year after CFO Mark Francis stepped down in July.

Francis, a 26-year veteran of the company, became CFO of the Racing Post in 2007 and retained his position following the company’s rebrand to Spotlight Sports Group in 2020.
